Amazon = Big, Bad Monolith?

Have you heard? Booklocker, a successful POD publisher (and not, by any stretch, a vanity press) has filed a class action lawsuit against Amazon.com.

If you take the time to read all the facts, it really does sound like Amazon is doing some dirty dealing. Some POD publishers have already caved in, signing the contract under duress, as it were.

And you may think that traditional publishers won't be affected. But it could be a matter of time, you know?

It bears watching.

  1. Thanks for the information. I plan to read it later this evening.

    I used to sell used books, prior to Amazon selling them on their website.

    Amazon would order from me and other booksellers. First they bought out bibliofind, and then the site was seriously hacked. We were kinda forced from selling on bibliofind to selling on Amazon.. most of the booksellers weren't happy...

  2. There was a great post on a blog called 101 Reasons To Stop Writing. It was a rebuttal to an article published in Forbes about how Amazon could change the publishing industry for the better. I haven't read the Forbes article, but the blog post was hilarious, and spot on. Here's the link, in case anyone is interested:
