    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes! Echoing everyone else, a clear first sentence with enough oddity/mystery to keep me reading on.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes! Did Mei's mother love cats? Is Mei's mother a cat herself? Probably not, since this isn't a fantasy, but I'd read on to find out!

  29. Yes, but the next sentences could kill it for me if it turns out the narrator is using cats as slang like Sammy Davis Jr. or if the MC is actually a feline. Crazy cat lady=good. Talking animals or dead Rat Pack member=bad.

  40. Yes. That's such a great visual joke, even if it's not mean to be "haha" funny (although maybe it is?).

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ummm. Yes?

    ReplyDelete
  54. No. Have to agree with Dieselpunkette. I want to know more about the eccentric mother, but she makes her cameo as a corpse in the first sentence. The title also reminds me too much of Amy Chua's "The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother." Love the cats, though.

    ReplyDelete
