Maybe say "endangered" redwood or something specific to show more about why the redwoods need saving. The two hyphenated descriptors seems like overkill. To remedy I think you can remove mid-life since it doesn't add to the pitch. The free fall runs is intriguing but I'm not sure if it relates to a sport or a theme in the book. I think you have all the elements here but some tightening will make this stronger.
