    I thought the same, and won't be entering. But will definitely be critiquing to help out. My personal favorite, however, might b:

    "This is the first sentence of my fabulous novel."

    I feel it's a little distancing and doesn't convey the impact that a more direct first sentence might have. I don't think I'd finish the rest of the paragraph but with a little tweaking, there might be something there.

    Perhaps changing the word 'fabulous' (never a great word for depth of characterization, in my opinion) to the more dramatic 'fantastic' would help?
