  2. Thank you very much.

I didn't see a place to denote where my fee should go, but feel free to put it towards admin.

    Thanks again!

  5. Hi there: I am the one who paid twice: got the payment's receipt and everything, so I should be in although my pc crushed when I was paying thru submission form, right? Please, someone give me a yes, I'm freaking out here! Sorry if am a pain ...

  6. Louisaklein -- I received both of your payments (and will be happy to refund the donation, since it wasn't your original intention; please let me know!). However, I haven't been able to find your actual entry, so I'm glad you said something. Clearly your PC messed with things. So I've gotten in touch with Michael and will let you know how/when it is remedied.

  7. Louisa -- Please tell me your entry number. (Unless you never received one...)

  8. so in the form you put the 100 logline and 250 words? so 350 words? Just want to be sure I didn't miss something.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That's right, Kallie. And there's a button to check your word count before submitting, too. :)

  10. I've extended the submission window to 7 PM EDT. For those who had to give up when things weren't working properly. :)

  11. How does the paypal thingy work? Do you have to have an account with paypal first? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lovely, just lovely. I made it in, but thought it was JUST loglines. I didn't put the first 250 words of my MS.

    Can that be fixed?

  13. Hello Authoress! My entry number was#21 (urban fantasy for adults, Supernatural Freak the title), got an automatic email telling me the number and to use the link to pay if it wasn't possible with the online form. Looking forward to hearing from you! Oh, and Keep the money please, you are already going thru a lot because of us!:)

  14. Oops. Forgot my logline. Can I resubmit?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Worked great. Thanks, Authoress!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Woot! It worked this time. And I even got a couple hours sleep! :) Thanks Authoress - and cyber hugs to Michael.

  17. Tammy -- No, you do not need a Paypal account. When you click on the Paypal button, you will be given the option to pay with a credit card.

    As for resubmitting:

No, that's not possible. BUT: If you will EMAIL ME at facelesswords(at)gmail.com with YOUR POST NUMBER in the subject line, I will manually fix your entry before we start reading slush tomorrow night.

In other words, DO THIS TODAY. :)

  18. Ok, bone head question here. I got my "pending" email, and I have a confirmation of my payment going through Paypal...am I supposed to have another email saying I'm no longer pending? LOL- I know...I'm sad and needy and oft times confused ;).

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Heh. You can see how easily confused I am by this stuff, so no worries. :P

Here's the text from the "pending" email:

THIS CONTEST HAS AN ENTRY FEE
    --------------------------------------------------------
Your entry will not appear unless you pay the entry fee!
It must be received before the submission window closes.
If you paid via the web form and received a confirmation, you are done.
If not, use this link to make your payment: http://msfv.thoughtbin.org/bd/express_set.php?&id=1693

Notice it says IF YOU PAID VIA THE WEB FORM AND RECEIVED A CONFIRMATION, YOU ARE DONE.

The "pending" email is sent just in case someone's payment didn't go through, or they accidentally closed the browser before paying. Because there's no way to go backward on the webform if that happens. It's a safeguard. :)

All that to say...you're good to go!

  20. I have just resubmitted sending you an email from lostinfiction. Please let me know if everything is fine. Thanks again for your patience

  21. Thank you! My poor confuzzled brain thanks you- oh it was so early when I submitted I failed on the italics test! *hangs head*

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks for all your hard work! You're awesome for putting on this contest!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Just jumping in to also say a huge thank you! I was concerned bec I didn't get a confirmation in the few minutes...but then I got it. And now I can breathe for the first time all day... THANK YOU!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Awesome and cyber hugs to you both. Okay, I hosed the indentations on the first 250 words... The paragraphs looked good when I pasted, but not on the preview.

I know there are no resubmissions, but how can I fix beofre heading to the slush pile?

    Thanks so very much.

  25. Were we supposed to receive an entry number? I got confirmation from paypal that my payment went through but nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @geewiz: that's what the preview window is for--so you can go back and fix anything that looks funny.

@Peta: you receive a pending email with your entry number. If you have an entry number and a paypal confirmation, you are all set.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Everyone: Have a read of all the comments in this window before posting questions as your question has probably been answered.

@geewiz: Authoress said that you can email her with your corrections and POST NUMBER (which is contained in the automatic email you received upon submitting). But you need to email her today.

@Michael: The web form and preview window are excellent, but unfortunately the nature of the first-come-first-served format encourages rushing. I would gladly have spent ten minutes checking every word but rushed it on the buzzer and missed the italics warning. C'est la vie.

    Good luck everyone.

  28. Unfortunately I did not receive an e-mail, only a confirmation from paypal that I had paid as well as a message on the website saying I had got through. (A similar thing happened to me when I entered a secret agent comp ealier in the year.I didn't know I had got through until I saw my entry posted on the blog)

  29. Just wanted to send a thank you for the hard work. You obviously care about helping all the clamoring unpublished multitudes and I'm terribly grateful. I did get in (I think - got both a confirmation email and a paypal confirmation). Now the nail biting begins. Thank you, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Mark N. - thanks for the great comments. Fortunately, the new lottery format relieves a bit of the need for rushing; the Baker's Dozen contests, at 100 entries, don't close out instantly either. There's always time to double check : )

Maybe if time permits, we'll add one of those "your expected wait is..." messages, only ours will be, "you'll be too late in..." :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for the suggestion Mark. I checked my spam box and every e-mail account I have but no luck :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Peta - send me all the info you used in the submit form (title, email, screen name, and a sampling of your post) via email: katowulf at the gmail domain; If you submitted it, I'll find it :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thank you Michael. I have just sent the information to you. Sorry you had to wake up to such a commotion this morning. Thank you for all your hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Peta and Michael: Are you using Hotmail?

I don't know if this info is helpful, but I found last year that using my Hotmail account meant I never heard back from Authoress--my SA submission got lost in the ether. I tried to use my Hotmail account for the first logline submission this month and never heard back either.

Last year when I switched to Gmail everything worked beautifully, and the same thing with the logline submissions. Gmail is the way to go!

  35. Thank you very much for this wonderful opportunity! Um... Like Peta, I received a PayPal confirmation but nothing else. I checked my spam but nothing there either. So, I don't have an entry number. Should I send along my info too?

    Thanks again!

  36. Hi there,

I submitted an entry around 11:45 PST (Entry #74 or log number 5759) and got stuck as it needed a palpal only. It never gave me the option for a credit card, which was the option I was prepared for. Then running late for work I couldn't finish up. Alas, now you have a confirmed entry and no fee before the close. I'm so sorry.

I hope this doesn't gum up the works. I'll try again on Thursday and hopefully this time I'll be able to use the card.

I really appreciate all you are doing here. I can only imagine it's a tremendous amount of work. Hopefully you know how much you are appreciated and what a fantastic thing you're doing. On behalf of all newbies out there trying to figure out what it what - Thank you. You're awesome. :-)

    -Athena

  37. Mike:
Thanks for all your efforts and I don't want to be a nudge... I understand the use of the preview...but it would not let me change anything once I pasted stuff in...no edits at all. So I cleared, pasted again, and repeated without success until I was sufficiently crazy. Your suggestions for future?

    Most appreciated, GW

    ReplyDelete
  38. I had the same experience as geewiz -- every time I previewed and then went back to make changes, the forms had been cleared. I wasn't sure if I was re-entering every time I began again.

    ReplyDelete
  39. If you did not get a confirmation, please send all your info to me using katowulf at the gmail domain. I'll look and see where your entry went (all of the issues so far have been incorrectly typed email addresses).

For those of you having trouble with preview, are you using the back button on your browser? Please email me with as many details as you can, including some screenshots if you know what those are.

I'm a bit confused about how this is getting gummed up as preview is pretty straight forward: clicky the submit or clicky the cancel link and make changes.

  40. Thank you so very much for your help, Michael... I really appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thank you for all your help Michael.

I had no problem at all with the preview and editing.
