Because not all lines get the same amount of reads, would the largest PERCENTAGE of yesses be a more accurate way to gauge their success?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering that too, but then I examined my own commenting habits. I read every entry, but didn't have time to comment on all 30. Instead, I voted YES on the ones I really liked, and commented on maybe 5 or 6 others as time permitted.
ReplyDeleteIf people voted yes and let their silence on the other entries serve as a no, then using percentages would not be accurate as there's no way to know how many people read it and didn't like it.

ReplyDeleteThe contest has left 2 lingering thoughts with me:
1) I wonder if reactions would've been the same if we'd been unable to read everyone else's. Because I have to admit, some of my opinions were slightly swayed when reading other people's good points. It shouldn't be that way, but I'm not gonna lie - it did happen to me once or twice ;)
2) I'd love to know how much weight a first line carries with agents, because I would imagine, in most if not all cases, agents are going to read the first page, first 20 pages, first 3 chapters, etc.
Anyhow, all good food for thought. Really made me think about my first lines, and the feedback was so varying yet helpful, I think (for the most part of what I've read). Good work, everyone!
