Friday Fricassee

It's gone awfully quiet around here -- I can only assume that you're all busy flexing your crit muscles and/or doing the final polish on your submission!

Our second official Secret Agent Are You Hooked? will be open for submissions on Monday at 9:00 am EDT, with precise submission guidelines posted at that time. Please do not send your submission until you've seen the post.

Meanwhile, I think I'd better prepare a stash of chocolate in my office so I can nibble whilst posting. Chocolate-y keyboard notwithstanding, I think it might make the entire experience more fulfilling. At least for me.

Last Friday, your comments were so inspiring. I'm seriously going to be reading through them again as I attempt to become better focused as we move into the fall season. Something about "new beginnings" and all that. (Which doesn't make sense, considering that everything is actually dying at that time of year...)

So never hesitate to share what you're working on and where you're at. I really do believe that this kind of back-and-forth dialogue makes a difference in our lives-as-writers. I've told Mr. Authoress more than once that I have yet to find a truly snarky, difficult, hard-to-love aspiring (or published) author online. It's amazing to be counted among such a fine group of humans.

Well, mostly humans. I'm not so sure about Merc...

  1. You gave us so much notice, that I have spit polished (and tried to make sure I had no freakin cliches) so much that I my head STILL hurts!

I learned SO much from the last HOOK contest! We'll see what else I can learn this time, because I'm sure with all my work, it will still be lacking, and no, I'm not complaining.

I have REALLY thick skin, and when you hear the same thing from more than one person, either you're stupid and ignore the great feedback, or you LEARN!

I do have a suggestion though. Maybe you could make a post about upcoming contests on other blogs. I find so many (I know of 3 right now, not counting yours) and would love to share. You have far more readers than I do on my blog, so I would be happy to post here!

    Looking forward to Monday!

    :) Terri

  2. Chocolate is great! Yes, I'm a male chocoholic and I'm not ashamed of it. I'm still looking for a way to inject hot cocoa to my veins.

And about Merc, I think she's a figment of her own imagination.

For us Europeans, what is 9:00 am EDT in GMT?

Terri -- Blog owners are warmly welcomed to email me their contest URLS and I'll post the ones that seem to "fit" MSFV. That's how I found out about Karen Duvall's 5-day writing mini-workshop on the 5 senses. And it was good, too!

  5. Merc is mostly human! Sparky and I built her ourself in the lab... Ardyth kindly provided parts. :o)

I am, like a slacker, not polishing my opening 250 for anything. I don't think I have anything that qualifies for the contest. But I'll stop by and let people know what I think. If they can impress a die-hard sci-fi fan than agents shouldn't be a problem at all!

  6. Ah, they all only THINK they know what I am. B-) (Did the scaly black wings and claws give it away?)

I've been horrible about doing any work (writing-wise)... *sighs* No excuse, other than I'm being lazy and indulging in watching the second season of "Dexter". %-)

I have, what, nine days to finish my novel and still have some odd... 30k to go? Far from impossible (I do NaNoWriMo!), I'm just failing to get in gear and do 3k+ a day...

I lack the current necessary motivation, I think, which is not good... *grabs some chocolate for inspiration*

And hey, Authoress, I see nothing wrong with starting a better focus or new beginning in fall. ;) I technically start my writing year in November. O:)

~Merc the lazy undefinable creature from the Twilight Zone... *cue theme music*

  9. *giggles hysterically* I had to keep a straight face (ok, a small smile) as I read this because the head of school (interpret as the boss above my manager) was in front of my desk talking to a lecturer. Merc is definitely human. At least her body is...
