Miss Snark's First Victim
Not really hooked, but it might be a personal preference. I just don't have a reason to care.
The writing is good, and I'm suympthetic to the character. I'd keep reading.

Could be hooked. I'd read more. We have a mystery here, even though it's just a card. But you could make the second parg active by showing her searching, pulling the bed from against the wall, instead of telling us.
