Friday Fricassee

I think this week speaks for itself.  It was amazing to watch everything unfold, plus I'm still sending post-auction requests from agents.  So my Fairy Godmother wings are feeling pretty sparkly!

Biggest frustration today?  I had no idea that Survey Monkey only allows a maximum of 100 responses on its free account.  I surpassed that halfway through yesterday--in fact, last count was at 167.  In other words 67 results I CAN'T SEE.  Unless I pay $19.95 a month.

Yeah.  I could pay the 20 bucks, read the survey, and cancel.  But...do I WANT to spend $20 on a survey two weeks before Christmas.  *grumble grumble*  I may have to bite the bullet.  I REALLY NEED the feedback, most of which has been very helpful.

A few sour grapes.  A couple WIFMs.  That's normal.  Mostly it was all constructive, helpful feedback.  Once I've compiled and studied it, I'll let you know what I've discovered.

Other news?  Um.  I watched The Princess and the Frog last night.  Because I'm addicted to Disney princesses and hadn't seen this one yet.

Dumbest. Movie. Ever.

The life's-all-about-my-pleasure prince never really redeemed himself enough to deserve Tiana's love.  The songs all sounded the same.  And aside from a few funny lines, it was, overall, just the same-ol'-same-ol'.

Boo, Disney.  I had higher expectations.

And now, off to finish this dang first draft.  Or kill myself trying.  Have a great weekend!

  2. I felt the same way about the prince!

And everyone kept telling Tatiana that she needed to play more instead of working, but they never actually showed any compelling negatives from her hard work!

I, too, was disappointed. Well, except for the bad guy voodoo song. That was a lot of fun to watch.

Have you seen The Swan Princess? If not, I HIGHLY recommend it (please, pretend they made no sequels).

  3. I'm hoping Tangled will be better. Anyone seen Tangled yet?

  4. Imagine my sigh of relief when all of my three daughters confessed they didn't want to watch that movie!!! YEAH girls!

Have a great weekend authoress. Don't pay the $20 for those comments - hopefully the feedback you did receive was worth its weight in gold.

  5. I hated the prince. What a dirt bag! I didn't want her to end up with him, but of course, she had to for her happy ending. The side characters seemed so cliched and 2-D, too. I have yet to figure out the whole firefly subplot, especially at the end. It seemed pointless.

  6. Awww, I really liked The Princess and the Frog. Honestly, I was willing to forgive Disney some slow plotting because I was happy to see both a minority-driven movie and a Southern setting. Granted, that doesn't mean you have to like the movie because Disney tried to be more inclusive. I thought it was decent, though.

And Krista--Tangled is wonderful! I just saw it a couple of nights ago. Strong female lead + characters who aren't stupid--and it was gorgeous to boot. But really, I want to point out how not stupid the characters are. Sometimes I watch Disney movies and I want to shake the hero/heroine out of his/her emo pain or stupid misconceptions. I was really glad that I didn't have to do that this time.

And, Authoress: go whip that first draft into shape!

  7. Um...what's a WIFM?

Haven't seen Princess, but I DID see Tangled last weekend and it was really good. My daughter (age 11) is too cool for cartoons right now so I took my mom instead. A different mother-daughter day than I planned, but it was still fun.

  8. Glad I haven't seen it. :) Tangled has gotten good reviews, though.

And as I don't even know what "WIFM" stands for (and am probably glad I don't), rest assured, that one wasn't from me. lol

  9. Side note on the movie - my cousin is in animation and said that P and the Frog was on a super rushed schedule. It's also the first movie out of their 2d house. So I think they were probably emphasizing the graphics over the story... I will say, I'm glad to see a return to 2d animation. :)
Also - I hate to see you spend money on the survey - what if you just ask us all to email what we said? We could copy and paste the questions or something? I thought the contest was a fabulous idea and would love to help support you doing it in the future!

  10. Oh my goodness, Tangled was awesome! You should definitely see that. It felt like an old-school Disney Princess movie--great songs, great writing, and totally fun.

  11. Echoing Danielle, what's a WIFM?

    Can't wait to see Tangled!

  12. I'm SO going to see Tangled; thanks for the recommendations!

WIFM = "What's in it for me." Pronounced "wiffum."

  13. TANGLED is waywayway better, imo. Go see it if you'd not before!

But also: why not just use a Google Form for your survey? It can do the same thing, is 100% free, and you could probably get more done that way. PLUS you can embed it in your post, so people don't have to click a link.

  14. Congrats on pulling together your coolest contest to date!

  15. I haven't seen The Princess and The Frog, but I took my daughter to see Tangled and we LOVED it. It felt like classic Disney to me. Maybe you'll like that one better!

  16. I heard about the contest on Alexia's blog, and came over to check it out. How did I not know about this blog? I've gotten visits from you before on my comments page, but every time I'd click on the name, I wouldn't be able to go any further. I'm floored by the generosity of spirit here--this kind of match up is absolutely unheard of. Miss Snark, despite her name, wins some major karma points.

  17. Just saw Tangled today.

The one thing that immediately placed it over PatF for me was that they pretty much started five minutes in with the singing. PatF took the better part of thirty minutes and felt more like the songs were tacked on to make sure it felt "Disney-ish."

Tangled is absolute magic, smart to boot, and a thrill ride.

And I'm not too man enough to admit I cried a bit.
