Call For Submissions: Drop the Needle

This round of Drop the Needle is all about over-the-top emotions. Please preface your excerpt with A VERY BRIEF blurb that sets up the scene.

Note: The last time we played Drop the Needle, I had a few blurbs that were LONGER THAN THE EXCERPTS. Dear folks, please don't do that! Set up enough of the scene so we have a feel for it, and say a word or two about the character whose emotions we're going to be studying.

Then send me your best 250-word excerpt that embodies an over-the-top emotional response. (Note: It doesn't have to be your MC! Just let us know which character is primary in the scene when you write your blurb.)

Your submission should follow this format:

SCREEN NAME:
TITLE:
GENRE:

Very Brief Blurb

Excerpt

Just so. Send your submission to me at facelesswords(at)gmail.com. I will accept submissions for the next 24 hours. Each submission will receive a LOTTERY NUMBER. The number you receive WILL NOT BE A POST NUMBER (this is different than usual). Once submissions are closed, I will randomly draw 50 numbers. These 50 entries will be notified and assigned a post number.

There's no need to scramble to get your submission sent in. You all have the full 24-hour window. Each valid entry will receive a lottery number.

One entry per person.

Winning entries will be posted anonymously and open for critique starting on Wednesday.

Please post your questions here!

  1. Thanks for the opportunity. I'm not submitting this time because I'm headed out of town for a work conference this week and won't have time to devote to critting the fabulous entries. I will get them all read, and may post a comment or two if time allows.

Good luck to everyone who enters, and everyone who wins the lottery on this one.

  2. This one sounds fun, but alas. It is finals week. I cannot. :-(
