Secret Agent Contest: Critique Guidelines

Okay, everyone--grab your red pencils and a big mug of tea! Here are 50 offering that need your eyeballs.

Remember to keep an eye out for our Secret Agent, who will be leaving feedback for ALL 50 ENTRIES some time between today and Sunday! Do your thoughts line up with our Secret Agent's? Leave yours and then come back and check!

Guidelines for Critique on MSFV:
  • Please leave your critique for each entry in the comment box for that entry.
  • Please choose a screen name to sign your comments. The screen name DOES NOT have to be your real name; however, it needs to be an identifiable name.  ("Anonymous" is not a name.)
  • Critiques should be honest but kind, helpful but sensitive.
  • Critiques that attack the writer or are couched in unkind words will be deleted.*
  • Cheerleading IS NOT THE SAME as critiquing.  Please don't cheerlead.
  • Having said that, it is perfectly acceptable to say positive things about an entry that you feel is strong.  To make these positive comments more helpful, say why it's a strong entry.
  • ENTRANTS: As your way of "giving back", please critique a minimum of 5 other entries.

*I can't possibly read every comment.  If you ever see a comment that is truly snarky, please email me.  I count on your help.

  1. Hmmm, I already left critiques on the 1st five entries before this post went up. None were snarky (never, ever!) but I hope they don't qualify as "cheerleading" either. Let me know if you think they need modified. Thanks for all you do - Jen

  2. Also, as an FYI, entry number 1 is listed twice for some reason. I mention it only because people might comment on either.

    1. Ack! Thank you so much! I've deleted the one that didn't have any comments yet. Not sure how I missed that!

  3. Is there a way to report spamcomments? Noticed one under #50

  4. Does anyone know why there are posts for number 27 through number 50? Where are numbers 1 through 26? I am new to this Secret Agent Contest and am trying to figure out how this works. Thank you!
