- Send your First Kiss scene (up to 300 words) with a brief (25-word) lead-in to give us some grounding.
- Please remember that this is a PG-13 blog. Nothing beyond a kiss will be accepted.
- The scene can be an almost-kiss, if you have one of those.
- Enter HERE.
- The submission window happens TODAY, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EDT. (That's NYC time, for the noobs from other lands.)
- I will accept the first 40 entries, plus 2 alternates.
- Entries will post for critique on Tuesday, May 7.
- This critique round is open to finished and unfinished novels, and to agented and unagented authors.
Note: PLEASE DON'T NEGLECT TO INCLUDE YOUR 25-word lead-in to the scene. It makes a big difference, knowing where we're being dropped into a story.
Please also take the time to CHECK YOUR ENTRY before hitting "enter".
Formatting:
Please type your 25-word lead-in in italics. Then double space before beginning your excerpt.
The excerpt will begin here. There will be lots of kissing.
Post your questions below!
I submitted but it wouldn't let me make the double space between the lead-in line and the excerpt. It's just one. Hope it's not a problem.
ReplyDeleteI put the wrong screen name for my submission. Any way I can change that?
ReplyDeleteNo worries, no worries.
ReplyDeleteI always fix formatting...
and the screen name is for identification purposes only. Screen names are never published with excerpts.
I can't believe I'm submitting this, the story's still a mess...
ReplyDeleteHeh! That's okay, Alaina! Nobody has to see the "mess". Just the kiss scene. :D
ReplyDeleteIf we forgot the lead in, is there a way to modify the entry?
ReplyDeleteI'm an alternate :-)
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd seen this just a little bit earlier! Ah well.
What a fun contest!
Kelly -- You can email me at facelesswords with your post number in the subject line.
ReplyDeleteSent! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm bummed that I didn't see this! I had a REALLY good kissing scene to turn in! :( Aw well!
ReplyDeleteI thought about submitting, but I didn't feel the scene was quite ready. I love the crit rounds!
ReplyDeleteAlaina, I'm thinking the exact same thing. Argh...the anxiety.... :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I saw this yesterday. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm with those who wish they saw this yesterday. I never, EVER do kiss scenes, but I finally have a fun one! Hahahaaha, maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and happy wishes to all!!
I re-read my entry and found a typo (double wording). I can't tell you how many times I proof read it and never found it *facepalm*. It's funny what coming back to your writing a day later with fresh eyes can do. Silly me. Sorry for the typo in advance. I really did proof it approximately 203 times. ;)
ReplyDeleteI found a typo too despite my reading and re-reading my entry. Ah well, I'm sure it'll be pointed out!
