  1. Never before have I sat by my computer clicking reload waiting for a new post to appear. Luckily no one saw me. How fun!

  2. LOL I was a little late this morning, Amy. Sorry! ;P

  3. Oh the temptation to enter. I've changed a single word since I entered it in the Jan SA contest.

But. I. Must. Fight. The temptation. And let someone else enjoy the excitement of the crit.

  4. Stina,
I thought the same, and won't be entering. But will definitely be critiquing to help out. My personal favorite, however, might b:

"This is the first sentence of my fabulous novel."

I feel it's a little distancing and doesn't convey the impact that a more direct first sentence might have. I don't think I'd finish the rest of the paragraph but with a little tweaking, there might be something there.

Perhaps changing the word 'fabulous' (never a great word for depth of characterization, in my opinion) to the more dramatic 'fantastic' would help?

  5. Grin. Glad I wasn't the only one clicking refresh from 9am until the starting gun post went up. I thought it was just because I was a firstie to the site.

word verification (I don't usually do this, but it was a cool word)
"dishomme" The stereotypical French attitude towards the rest of mankind

  6. Peter, I can't stop laughing at your comment. *wipe tears from eyes*.

Can't wait to crit the real first sentences tomorrow.
