Query Contest Winners

Well, the overflow of positive response to our first Query Contest has been AMAZING. Many thanks to those of you who have poked me in the ribs over the past year or so about hosting one.

Without further banter, here are the "winning queries," chosen by the illustrious Jodi Meadows:

MS. MEADOWS WOULD LIKE TO READ A PARTIAL FROM THE FOLLOWING ENTRIES:

#9 NORMAL

#14 TRANSSIBERIAN

#15 LONG WAY HOME

#26 BETWEEN HELL AND OHIO

#50 FISSURED

Winners, please email me at facelesswords(at)gmail.com for submission instructions.

MS. MEADOWS WOULD LIKE TO READ THE FULL FROM THE FOLLOWING:

#43 A SOUL FOR TROUBLE

Again, please email me for submission instructions.

Congratulations! And an enthusiastic public THANK YOU to Jodi, who is a true delight.

My apologies for not creating link-ables in this post; I've got a busy morning. Coming tomorrow: Really Big News from a reader!

  2. I second that. Congrats to everyone who won, and everyone who entered.

And thanks to Jodi and the Authoress for the work they put into all this. I learned plenty about my (miserable) query, but even more from reading the other 57. Good luck to everyone.

  3. Congrats to the winners! Jodi's feedback was amazing. I didn't enter this go-around, but I read through the entries and all of Jodi's feedback. If you haven't done that already, you must!

  4. This summer has been super swamped. I haven't read as much as I'd like. But I'd like to congratulate the winners and wish them the best in their endeavors. Along with all who are querying.
    Best of luck to all!

  7. Best wishes to the winners and props to everyone who entered. There was so much to learn, not only from my own query but from everyone's comments and queries.

Special thanks to Jodi, who went above and beyond pulling 3rd shift to get through all of them! Thanks Authoress for hosting and I hope you decide to have future query contests as well. :)

  8. And I add my best wishes as well. What a great contest! I'm crossing my fingers for #50!

Your contests are always exciting and I learn as much from the crits as I do from the samples. You all are awesome.

I think our Authoress deserves a huge round of applause for all the work she does on this blog. Thank you, thank you, thank you to her and to Jodi.

  9. I've had to read this over about 30 times to make sure I really see my story listed and I'm not hallucinating. I guess it must be real because I see it on Facebook, too. Just... wow. I come in from arguing with my preschooler about using the toilet, and I find this.

Thank you, Authoress, and thank you, Ms. Meadows!

  10. Beth, I had the *exact* same reaction (sans the toilet training, thankfully :)) Looks like today was a VERY good day for Beths!

THANK YOU SO MUCH Authoress and Jodi!!!

  11. Congrats to the winners! I also wanted to thank Authoress, Jodi and all who commented. In fact, I cut and pasted the comments I received onto a sheet that I can review at my leisure as I revise (yet again!). It's such a blessing to get a variety of critiques, because we all know how hard it is to be objective about our own work after the 10th or so revision.

Authoress, I'm sure this was a lot of work on your part, but it was so helpful, thanks!

  14. I almost hit the floor when I saw my title listed. Not only did I learn a lot from this contest, but I also got a request for my manuscript.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, Authoress and Jodi!!

Good luck to everyone else who got requests and to those who are perfecting their queries.

  16. Thanks for this contest. I'm not sure that I understand the process of writing a query better now but at least I understand why some queries didn't work. That is a beginning.

  17. Congrats everyone who won and to those who entered. I'll be studying them all when it's time to do my query. Talk about a perfect learning experience for us all.

  20. This one attracted my eye and I should add it to my collection. Good work! A respected blog must exist. We are grateful that you shared this insightful article. Your baby, a boy or a girl, needs a first and middle name. Use the middle name generator for some wonderful ideas.
