I'd have to read more of this just to see what's up. From the quirkiness of the opening lines, I'm almost prepared to read about ostriches hunting. ;-)
Well, it's interesting and I'm curious enough to want to read more, but my first instinct was to want to change it to what do guns and ostriches have in common.
I’d definitely read more. We’ve already gotten a sense of mystery and humor, as well as time. I’m intrigued and want to know the answer to that riddle.

ReplyDeleteThis is just odd enough to hook me right away. :)
ReplyDeleteQuirky. I like it.
ReplyDeleteLike it. I'd immediately think poaching. Not sure if thats the direction you want readers to go.
ReplyDeletegreat opening. :)

ReplyDeleteHmm. I'll disagree with everyone else. I don't like books that begin with questions.
ReplyDeleteI'm with brimfire on the not liking questions as openers, but I'd definitely read the next few paragraphs to see what's up.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing.

ReplyDeleteThese two sentences have just enough of a hook to keep me reading.
ReplyDeleteI'd keep reading.
ReplyDeleteHehe, no ostrich hunting. This is a YA fantasy :)
ReplyDeleteGood! Especially for YA.
ReplyDeleteWhat do guns and ostriches have to do with each other? Yesterday, I'd have said nothing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with brimfire. I don't like questions as first lines. And who's asking it, anyway?
I am hooked, though. Anything with ostriches in a first line has got to be interesting. :)
I like it :)
ReplyDeleteI like it. What DO guns & ostriches have to do with each other? I'd like to find out.
ReplyDeleteThe question is bizarre enough for it to work for me. I'm hooked.
ReplyDeletePoaching? Oh, wait, I'll just read on to find out. Nice opening. Hooked. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat fun, I'd keep reading just to get an answer to the question.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious enough to read on. I love ostriches
ReplyDeletehooked; wouldn't change a thing :)
ReplyDeleteI like it. It does make me want to keep reading.
