10TH BIRTHDAY BLOGPITCH #5: YA Contemporary

TITLE: The Seven Labors of Nick Jablonsky
GENRE: YA Contemporary

Challenged by a mushroom induced prophet, Nick attempts to complete seven labors, like a discount Hercules, before summer's end while learning that there may be more to him than he once thought in this modern epic retelling of the Hercules myth.

  1. This sounds like an interesting story. I would suggest maybe labeling it as a retelling instead of a contemporary. I was surprised when I pulled this up on this blog and it was a retelling instead of a more typical contemporary. Good luck!

  3. Great phrase: 'like a discount Hercules.'

Sounds like something I would read.

    And, congratulations!

  4. I would remove "like a discount Hercules". It doesn't flow well and you already mention Hercules at the end of this same sentence. I think you also need to tell us what he will get if he completes the labors and maybe something about why it may be difficult.

    Good luck!

  5. I love the strange and contemporary take on something familiarish! I'm already curious if this will stick to the original Greek Hercules myth, or the lighter Disney version.

  11. I loved the phrasing of this and I was super intrigued because... HERCULES, YES. The only question/comment I have is: what are the stakes for Nick/what happens if he fails these trials? Awesome job, though!
