I don't know about you, but I'm still glowing in the aftermath of our incredible Secret Agent round.
Well, no, that's not entirely true. I do know you, and I'm certain you're still glowing, too. Either that, or you're exhausted.
At any rate, I want to point out Kristin Nelson's blog post about the contest. Do take a moment to pop over and read it; not only does it offer some extra insight on her critiques, but it bestows quite a compliment on our posse of critters.
Secondly, I thought I'd let you know that Miss Snark herself paid a visit to MSFV last night. You'll find her comment here.
So. Maybe now I'll stop getting emails addressed to "Miss Snark." Because, as I've mentioned many times, I am not Miss Snark. I am her first victim.
It was so nice to "see" her here. (Wait, where did everybody go? Oh, right. You've clicked over to her comment to make sure I'm not having a delusion of grandeur.)
There you have it. Lots of happy-fuzzy-good for this Tuesday morning. Which is just what I need, because a hugely disappointing rejection-of-the-full popped into my inbox not long ago. It was one of those "SO close, but not quite" rejections that make one question the rhythm of the universe.
Well, not really. But it still stinks.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Kristin's blog post...and life in general!
Kristin blog post = awesome.
ReplyDeleteMiss Snark's return comment = awesome.
Full rejection = so, so, so not awesome.
But see, the scales are tipped in the favor of "awesome," so you have to be awesome today. Can't argue with cold hard facts.
Don't know if you're aware of it, but I thought you might be interested in the massive Miss Snark index I put together over at the Wyrdsmiths blog. Index
ReplyDeleteI'm just sorry I didn't find this blog sooner! I would've loved to take part in that contest :)
ReplyDeleteOh and I found your blog due to being an avid reader of Agent Kristin's. Her entry was very insightful, as they always are.
Reading some of those opening paragraphs was wonderful--there were a few of them that I just wanted to keep reading (the most memorable being Butterfly Swords). It's made me realize I need to make the beginning of my book a little more interesting :P
Very cool about Kristin's post and Miss Snark's comment, Authoress! :)
ReplyDeleteSorry about the rejection. *offers some double chocolaty chip cookies*
Thanks for hosting another SA round, it was fun to see, as usual. And congrats to the winners. :)

Sorry about the reject. They sting. But I know you will take it and find a way to turn it to a positive.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on such a successful blog and for having such great SA contest!
Dear Authoress,
ReplyDeleteI had several "so close" full ms rejects before scoring my awesome agent.
One was in fact, from Agent Kristin, who was lovely about it. I took her feedback, as well as suggestions from other lovely rejections I got, and went back to work. And it was that last revision that finally rang the bell.
You'll get there.
Best of luck to you!
Authoress, sorry to hear about your "so close" rejection. Been there. It does sting. The good news is you can't suffer an allergic reaction from it, or even anaphylactic shock. I hope.
ReplyDeleteMy fingers and toes are all crossed that you'll get great news soon.
Awww, so sad about the rejection. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. It will happen when it is supposed to. Have faith.
Good news all around, though! That's awesome that Miss Snark popped over. :)
Authoress-
ReplyDeleteRejections happen. But good karma always comes back around! Right?
I thought Kristin's post was great, and so were her comments on all the entries. (I've already revised mine and ended up cutting/reworking the entire first chapter). Sometimes we just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Get your MMS. back out there! And good luck:) If there is one thing that I learned critiquing and reading the critiques of the submissions in this contest, this is all so subjective. BELIEVE.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fabulous contest. I sure learned a lot from reading the entries and the critiques.
I am sorry to have missed this contest. Actually I, too, had a serious case of the blues having received a rejection-of-the-full a couple of days before the Monday kick-off, and I wasn't in the mood to put myself out there for another kick in the arse. It took me a few days to get my mojo back, if you know what I mean. So we dust ourselves off and keep writing. Writing is the only thing that perks me back up. Do you ever just want to be a hermit in the woods with your computer?
ReplyDeleteKristin's blog post was interesting and a compliment to all who participated.
Onwards and Upwards.
I found you through Kristin's blog, which I love, love, love. I wish I would have known about the Secret Agent round - it looks like it was so much fun. I plan to check back often!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristin. Turns out 8:00 am is too late to submit when you are on the west coast, so missed you this time. Still learned a lot and appreciate your input. Congrats to the winners.
ReplyDeleteHey, the bitterness of rejections will only make the chocolate soufflé of acceptance so much sweeter.
ReplyDeleteYou're almost there, and Miss Snark is watching over you. What's the fuss?
Oh, and congrats to the winners!
Kristin's Blog Post: led me here.
ReplyDeleteLife in General: better than the alternative.
Full Rejection: sucks. Better than a query rejection. Better than a partial rejection. Still sucks.
I actually started reading this blog through Kristin's. I've been following hers and just happened to click a link that brought me here. Who would have thunk it? ;)
